The maiden test of Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile (QR-SAM) conducted on Sunday from Chandrapur in Odisha could not meet its desired results and ended in failure.

"Missile burst into flames after one km of flight," reliable sources said.

The truck-mounted missile was test fired from launch pad number 3 of Chandipur integrated test range.

The missile system having a potential to engage multiple targets within a range of approximately 30 km, is equipped for quick reaction based on network-centric warfare.

A section of media has reported yesterday that the test was successful.

The failure comes after a successful test of Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM) last month which was conducted by the Indian Navy.
